Children's Health Issues
SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM
There are very few places on the globe where chemical pollution has not reached. Our use of synthetic chemicals has been constantly increasing over the last few decades as has the number and type of consumer products that we now fill our homes with. Approximately 100,000 synthetic chemicals are being commercially produced with 1500 new chemicals being introduced each year. The majority of these chemicals have not been adequately tested for their effects on human adult health much less tested for their impact on children and the developing fetus. We are exposed to many of these in our homes in the form of consumer products such as TVs & computers, children’s toys, furniture, carpets & other types of flooring, cosmetics, fragrances etc. In maintaining a market for products industry has been adding features that not only made them more appealing and ‘user-friendly’ but also more toxic.
The ASEHA leaflet Impacts Of Environmental Toxins On The Health Of Children provides an overview of the number and types of chemicals that are potentially affecting children's health.
